It brings in money. It adds beauty. It’s the right thing to do! But did you know it creates jobs? More than 750,000 jobs in the U.S. exist because of recycling. That’s $36 billion dollars in wages every single year.

The more we recycle, the more jobs we can create. For every 1,000 tons of waste that are recycled, about 1.5 jobs are created. If the U.S. can achieve a recycling rate of 75% by 2030, 1.1 million new jobs in recycling would be created. That is a lot of jobs! In fact, recycling creates about 10 times more jobs than waste.

What type of job could you have in recycling?

Get a job that works with the science and technology behind recycling. Be a scientist, researcher, or soil expert. Get a skilled trades job. Be a driver, sorter, or welder. Get a job where you tell others about recycling. Be a writer, reporter, or city recycling coordinator.

There are so many other jobs, and all of them are great ways to work in recycling. Plus, you can feel good knowing you’re doing something that helps the environment. Recycling builds a better today!
